Clinical Nurse Consultant
Sharon A. Schott, RN and Clinical Nurse Consultant, has spent more than 30 years working in healthcare at many levels. These include Director of Nursing, Regional consultant, and clinical consultant for the Legal Department of a large multi-facility nursing home corporation. Sharon has also done work for private attorneys as a nurse expert. She is one of the original developers and facilitators of the Nurse Competency program sponsored by the American Health Care Association. In these roles, Sharon used the resident assessment process to improve resident outcomes. Sharon authored: "Legal Aspects of Documentation" for the AHIMA (American Heath Information Assoc.) national journal. In addition, she served on a national taskforce for AHIMA to assist in the development of documentation guidelines for long term care which is published on their website. Sharon has presented workshops on Customer Service for employees at both local and national levels. These workshops assist employees in dealing with problem families and/or residents and have been very well received. Presently, Sharon is assisting facilities in assessing nursing operations and accuracy of MDS coding to enhance case mix reimbursement.
